A customer story

housEvolve customer story

Patricia from New Jersey

My 90 year old mother lives right across the street from me. With the unpredictable weather during the change of each season, I decided that purchasing a housEvovle thermostat kit would be a good investment for me as it would eliminate the need to continually walk back and forth to make sure the temperature in her home was comfortable for her. This was my main intention for purchasing the system, and it has worked wonderfully.

During the winter of 2010/2011 the temperatures were hitting some lows that we have not really seen for a long time, or at least not that I can remember. One morning I got a phone call from my mother’s home, and it just so happened to be the housEvolve system calling with a temperature out of bounds alert. Since this day in particular was extremely cold, I went over to see what was going on.

When I got to her house, I checked the housEvolve thermostat, which was set to 73 degrees, however the house was at 68 degrees. The boiler would in fact come on, run for a while and then shut off, never hitting the target temperature. My original thought was that maybe there was a problem with the thermostat, since this never happened before.

Baffled by the fact that the boiler was in fact cycling on and off, I called the Electric & Gas Co. to come and troubleshoot. What they found was that the high water temperature limit set on the boiler was 160 degrees. This was set upon the installation of the boiler and has worked at maintaining any temperature. Since we were having a cold spell and the system would not increase the temperature, by changing the high water temperature limit to 180 degrees the system water temperature could increase and now maintain any temperature required.

I must admit, this was not something I had intended on happening, and because of the housEvolve system I was able to know what was happening in my mother’s home and fix the problem quickly. housEvolve has truly exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone who has elderly parents to take care of and make sure are comfortable.
